It depends! There are multiple factors to consider if you need to have your tooth removed.
Not all wisdom tooth, impacted or not, needs to be removed.
1. Is it painful or occasionally causes pain and discomfort?
2. Is it damaging to the adjacent teeth or has a potential to damage the adjacent teeth?
3. Will the space it occupies be used for your orthodontic treatment or for TMJ consideration?
4. Is there an abnormal growth in the area?
If you answered YES to any of the four cases above, then you most likely need to have your wisdom tooth removed.
There's really only one reason:
1. Prophylactic removal- Remove the tooth before it gives off any bad signs or symptoms
